"Ancient Giant". There is one tree on all of Vieques that is a must-see among trees, and that would be this one: A 300 year-old ceiba tree. With elephantine textures and serpentine curves, this behemoth makes a mockery of all living things around it, and with it's many nooks and crevices, makes a home for many. I woke up in the middle of the night to get here well before dawn, and endured several thousand mosquito bites through a windless, balmy morning to do photographic justice to this elegant monstrosity. But as they say in photography, fishing, and parenting, "It was all worth it".
